Race director Aaron Velthoven tells CBC News a 57-year-old U.S. man suffered “major medical emergency” around 8 kilometres into the race while on the Windsor, Ont., side.

Sydney Devore-Bowman and Andy Bowman met at a race two years ago. She encouraged him to try the Detroit half-marathon, and now they're married and have both won the full marathon.

Also a first, the half and full marathons featured elite runners who had to qualify. The first-place winners for the men’s and women’s full marathon belonged to a husband and wife who live in Ferndale. Andrew Bowman celebrating an amazing feat, but the win was not complete without his other half.
