Detroit Lions GM Brad Holmes has until 4 p.m. Tuesday at NFL trade deadline to potentially acquire pass rusher to bolster depleted defensive line.

The Lions have leaned on a variety of players to make up for the absence of Hutchinson, including Levi Onwuzurike, James Houston and Josh Paschal, but none of them has been an every-down player like Hutchinson was. Adding Smith gives Detroit another player to add to that rotation.

Hours before the NFL’s trade deadline at 4 p.m., the NFC-leading Lions (7-1) acquired defensive end Za’Darius Smith from the Cleveland Browns, a person familiar with the deal told The Associated Press.
