If you’re in the market for a brand new three-row Jeep with a V8 engine — something that isn’t a Wagoneer — you’re out of luck. Jeep has dropped the eight cylinder engine from the Grand Cherokee L’s lineup leaving the V6 as the only option.

Apparently, less than 4% of buyers opted for the most powerful V8 trim, so Jeep decided to remove it completely, leaving only the V6.

The automaker quietly discontinued the V-8 engine option in the two-row Grand Cherokee in the middle of 2023. Jeep views the more powerful plug-in hybrid 4xe as the V-8's replacement. The 5.7-liter V-8 was rated at 357 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque, while the 4xe checks in with 375 hp and 470 lb-ft.

Though Jeep has never quite been synonymous with V8 engines, their gradual disappearance from various makes and models is widely seen as symbolic of the auto industry’s decline.

Jeep fans, brace yourselves. The Grand Cherokee L, once synonymous with its powerful 5.7-liter V-8 engine, is saying farewell to the eight-cylinder powerhouse as of late 2024. Jeep initially phased out the V-8 in the standard Grand Cherokee in 2022,
