The Florida Highway Patrol said the man was going westbound on SR-54 at a "high rate of speed" in a Chevy Corvette just before the crash.

Troopers said William Edward Ricks, 72, of Lutz, was driving a Ford Escape south on U.S. 41 when he turned left into the path of the northbound motorcyclist. The motorcyclist was taken to a hospital after the collision, where he died.
