Kansas State Wildcats quarterback Avery Johnson publicly announced that he had started a drive online to raise money for his high school principal, Dr. Chris Botts, who is undergoing cancer treatments.

Johnson didn’t have a touchdown in a 38-9 loss, but BYU fans helped make up the rest, he said. The goal was to raise $20,000 and BYU fans surpassed that mark by almost $10,000. “The fact that you want to do this for me, I don’t even know what to say. It touches my heart,” Botts said of Johnson’s initial pledge.

Johnson was most surprised by the fact that BYU fans complimented him for starting a fundraiser for his former principal at Maize High, Chris Botts, who is in a fight with cancer. He said BYU fans donated to the fund and helped push it well over its goal of $20,000.
